Adams with an early top five

At every Shrine Bowl combine there is going to be a standout. Last weekend when the combine circuit made its way to Butler High in Matthews, N.C., it was defensive back Spencer Adams who stole the show.

Working out at his high school, Adams checked in at 6-foot-1, 174 pounds and ran 40-yard dashes of 4.27 and 4.21 seconds on his first two runs. His 4.21-time was the best of the day. For one last run six stopwatches were placed on him when he ran by himself. This time he was clocked at 4.27-seconds.

"It feels good," Adams said. "To run a 4.2, that felt good. It definitely surprised me, but I have been hovering around 4.3.

"My big bro got a lot of attention last year when he ran a 4.29, so I was thinking if I run real fast like a 4.21 it would turn heads."
