Davis, Boyd watch and wait for fall to arrive

While their teammates have banged helmets for the last three weeks, Mike Davis and Andy Boyd have calmly watched from the sidelines.

Rehabilitation from off-season surgeries has sidelined both Davis and Boyd, and made spring practice a fairly uneventful exercise.

They'll have to wait for the fall to make an impact on the Gamecock football team.

Davis, who finished the 2006 season with 474 yards on 100 carries, an average of 4.7 yards per rush, missed a significant amount of time during fall camp as a result of a left foot infection.

Upon the conclusion of the season, Davis determined that surgery to clean up some damage in his knee was necessary if he wanted to start the 2007 season healthy.

He should be 100 percent when summer conditioning begins in July.
