Pennsylvania prospects stand out at PSU

With the State College Nike Training Camp right in their backyard, several Pennsylvania prospects made their best efforts to impress the host of college coaches and scouts in attendance.

Two of them - Washington (Pa.) Trinity outside linebacker Mike Yancich and Aliquippa (Pa.) Hopewell athlete Jared Rains - were singled out after the three-and-a-half-hour combine for their efforts. Yancich was recognized as the best linebacker present Saturday, while Rains finished with the top SPARQ rating among all of the over 350 players in attendance. The rating combines the figures from a 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical leap and bench press of 185 pounds.

A strong performance Saturday won't make that much of an impact to Yancich, who said he already holds 20 scholarship offers, including Michigan State, Boston College, Iowa and Georgia Tech. But one of the schools he said he won't forget about is UConn, mostly because the coaching staff was the very first to send him a written scholarship offer to play college football.
