Johnson ready to lead

Senior strong safety Kelin Johnson has never been one to edit his thoughts or hide his emotions on and off the field that is until this year. Johnson is one of only two seniors on the defense with starting experience and he is anchoring a defense that is replacing seven starters from the 2006 squad that was one of the best in the nation.

Given the lack of playing experience on the defense Johnson has embraced the role of being the team's leader on defense and he is acting accordingly.

"There is a big difference this year (in how I act and carry myself). I have to pay attention to how I walk and how I carry myself around the weight room and locker room. You have to watch what you say and be an example in the meeting room for the younger guys. You make sure to listen to coach at all times and try to go out and do the best you can do and lead by example," said Johnson about being a leader
