Don't sleep on Earl Thomas
When one thinks of the incoming Texas Longhorn freshman class, and the defensive backs in particular, it is usually a couple of names that immediately pop into the mind. Rivals100 members Curtis Brown and Ben Wells seem to dominate most of the message board talk, with a smattering of discussion of discussion on Christian Scott, the Horns' last commit for the 2007 class.
So where's the problem, you ask? How about giving Earl Thomas some love?
One of the first commitments for Texas last year, Thomas quietly went about his business during his senior year, letting the other players steal the spotlight. Since reporting to Texas in June, things have remained relatively quiet for Thomas as he's worked out with the Longhorns in the off-season, but that doesn't mean the West Orange-Stark product hasn't been making his mark.
In fact, if you talk to some people behind the scenes, there's some feeling that Thomas has been right up there with the most impressive true freshman in putting on a nice show during the Longhorns' 7-on-7 workouts.
"It was kind of tough at first but I'm kind of getting used to the speed," Thomas said. "It's like when you're a freshman and they stick you on varsity, but you're at that next level now. I'm kind of getting the best of some people now."
