Camp Preview: LB

The Arizona State linebacker position group looks to be significantly different from last season, not only due to personnel losses, but as a result of a philosophical change instituted by the new coaching staff that will place an even greater emphasis on speed and coverage ability.

Beau Manutai and Derron Ware, two of the six players who primarily saw action in the rotation last season, have now departed, and Morris Wooten joined the program in the spring, immediately jumping into a first-team role.

Wooten, a 6-foot-1, 237 pound mid-year JUCO transfer out of Glendale Community College who earned second-team All-American honors last season, stepped right into the middle (MIKE) linebacker spot vacated by Manutai, and looked like one of the best and most consistent players on the defense over the four week spring period.
