Receivers impress Yarber

The Sun Devils are trying to improve the passing game after finishing in the bottom half of the Pac-10 last season in passing yards and receiving touchdowns for the first time in years. Experienced position coach Eric Yarber is working with a young, talented receiving corps. We spoke with him about the group after a recent practice.

On how freshmen Kerry Taylor and T.J. Simpson have looked in early practices:

"They are a pleasant surprise. T.J has picked up the offense pretty good. He's faster than what I thought he would be. He's quicker. And like I said he's picking it up quickly. Kerry's a very very polished receiver. He knows as much as the vets. He knows every position. He knows 'Z' he knows 'H' he knows 'X'. He's hungry to be out there and he's a playmaker."

On Taylor's quick start being a result of his being at all spring practices and being dedicated to learning the offense:

"He was able to sit in all meetings last spring. He sat in, didn't miss a beat. I asked him questions in meetings and he was able to regurgitate the offense back to me. Him playing out here in the summer time helped him out tremendously. He took all his reps with the ones and twos so I know that helped him out a lot."
