Tuesday Notebook: Freeny returns
Practice moved indoors on Tuesday and fled from the fall conditions that have made a late summer appearance. The next to last day of training camp was the first day some younger players began running with the scout team. Here is a look at how things shaped up inside the bubble.
A nice day indoors
Head coach Greg Schiano liked what he saw of his team this afternoon. With a little more than a week until opening day, it is a very good sign.
"I thought there was a lot of enthusiasm," said Schiano. "You can see that game on the horizon. There's an excitement level that's starting to brew. Plus, we're backing off a bit physically. Practices are a little shorter. They're starting to get a little zip back in them. Hopefully, that will continue."
A new face at defensive end
George Johnson has apparently lost his starting defensive end position to Gary Watts. Schiano commented on the switch.
"Gary moved ahead of George from the scrimmage. But they're both going to play a lot. I think that's going to be a battle all year long."
After the clearinghouse kept Jonathan Freeny out of practice for a few days, the freshman made his return. Wayne Thomas is still waiting for the details to be sorted out so he can hopefully return to the field.
