Smith: It's time to start winning
Could this be UCF's breakout year? Kevin Smith thinks it's time. Nearly everything is falling into place for UCF to acheive their goals. The Knights have first-rate facilities across the board, headlined by the new Bright House Networks Stadium, and a rapidly growing fanbase ecstatic to experience football games on campus for the first time.
The last piece of the puzzle is winning. UCF had a taste of it in 2005, but they need to start doing it on a consistent basis.
Smith, as a true freshman in 2005, experienced that first bowl game and the appearance in the Conference USA Championship Game. He realized it wasn't so easy to maintain that sort of success as a year later UCF dropped back down with a 4-8 record.
"Coach George O'Leary says it's all about winning and he's right," Smith said after a recent practice. "We've got a brand new stadium. There aren't too many campuses like the one. Coach O'Leary works hard to get us what we need. I feel just like him that it's time for us to start winning. When the Bright House gets packed, it's time for us to give them what they came for. They didn't come to pack the Bright House to get disappointed. I could see if it was impossible, but it's not impossible."
