Cronan: In the spotlight now

R.R. Marshall: Peter, after Boston College took a 17-0 lead into halftime Eagle Nation figured they would come out and put away a game I-AA team like UMass in the second half. Instead they had to hang on for dear life before pulling out a 24-14 victory over the Minutemen. Can you understand how this left many of their followers just a bit uneasy?

Peter Cronan: Rather than feeling uneasy I think the fans should feel gratified that they got a victory against a very good football team. After watching them play in person I believe this UMass team is as good as half if not two-thirds of the current Division I-A schools. It's not that BC played badly but rather UMass gave them all they could handle. BC got away with a good, physical win against a well-coached, aggressive football team where they had to get down and dirty on the ground. On a Saturday where several ranked teams went down to defeat the Eagles came away with a victory to improve their record to 5-0 and that, as they say, is the bottom line.
