The Nelson Effect is in full force
What struck observers first was how effortlessly he glided down the sideline in the final minute. Just when the homecoming crowd at Bill Snyder Family Stadium thought Jordy Nelson had taken the field for the final time after establishing the single-season record for receptions, the 6-foot-2, 217-pounder appeared again and darted 92 yards and into the end zone on a punt return. If only the previous 59 minutes had been such a breeze.
Fans chanted his name in the stands. Then teammates followed by chanting his name as they trotted into the locker room.
Able to turn a short gain into a long one and able to take a ball like change at a toll booth and tuck it away with one hand while already looking ahead at the ensuing traffic, Nelson took an otherwise lackluster contest Saturday afternoon and with his own touch made things appear a little bit brighter. Call it the Nelson Effect, which took form in the second half of the Wildcats' 51-13 drubbing of Baylor.
The big question afterward: What was Nelson going to do next?
