Dawgs offer 2009 athlete

The University of Georgia has not offered many in the class of 2009, but they recently let Donavan Tate know that he had a spot in Athens if he wanted to be a Bulldog in the future.

"Me and my mom went into Coach Richt's office before the Kentucky game and we talked to him for a while and that is when he offered me a scholarship," said Tate.

"Coach Richt told me that Georgia was really interested in me and that they wanted to offer me as a quarterback. He let me know that they were going to sign two quarterbacks too and that is cool."

"He told me more about being a football player at Georgia, what it is like there at Georgia and me and mom asked some questions and it went well. It was nice to talk with him and me and my mom like Coach Richt."

Georgia is the first school to offer Tate and the 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete is excited about it.

"It felt very good when he offered me and I was happy about it," he said. "I wasn't really expecting it, so it was a nice surprise. They had been sending me a lot of letters and stuff, but they had not mentioned offering me. It was nice to hear him say they were."

Tate actually watched Georgia the last two weeks in person and he talks about those experiences.
