Williams is on the mend

Clairton's Manny Williams (6' 1" 205) helped the Bears to a 24-2 record over the past two years. Unfortunately his season this past fall was cut short when he suffered a knee injury in the WPIAL Class A playoffs. The injury required surgery.

As a junior Manny Williams helped Clairton to a 14-1 record and a WPIAL Class A championship.

Williams camped at Pitt in June. The coaching staff was impressed offered him a scholarship after the camp was over and he quickly accepted.

As a senior Williams helped the Bears to a 10-1 record. Clairton was unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class A when he suffered the knee injury. Without Williams Springdale upset the Bears 22-21. Clairton had beaten Springdale 26-0 during the regular season.

Williams was a two-way starter for Clairton this fall playing fullback on offense and safety on defense. Williams rushed for 424 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. On defense he was credited with 82 tackles and 2 interceptions.

Williams was recognized for his play as a senior by being named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Fabulous 22 and the Tribune-Review's Terrific 25. He was also a first team Class A all-state selection as a defensive back.
