Ohio State impresses McGee
This weekend, Ohio State was lucky enough to host some of the top players from south Florida for unofficial visits to see the Buckeyes' Spring Game. One of the best of the group was Plantation, Fla. defensive back Brandon McGee and the versatile athlete came away very impressed.
The high school quarterback was on the trip with friends Vladimir Emilien and Jaamal Berry among others. Both Emilien and Berry reported great weekends in Columbus but McGee claims his may have been the best.
"Mine was just as good as theirs if not better," McGee said. "I got in with Jaamal on Friday and we went over to the Blackwell and went over to the Woody football center and they showed us around and everything. It was super cool getting to meet with the coaches and everything and meeting with the players."
McGee felt right at home with the Buckeye teammates he met and that was one of the factors that stuck out to him on the visit.
"I liked the players and how cool they were," he said. "I definitely think the team had a lot of camaraderie and act like brothers and that's a big factor in my decision."
On Saturday, McGee took in the Ohio State Spring Game and continued to be impressed.
"The Spring Game was crazy," he said. "The fans are nuts about Buckeye football and that's definitely an atmosphere I want to play in. They were asking for autographs and were calling our names. Just seeing the team come out on the field was great but that was mind-blowing."
As the first trip for the Rivals100 member, Ohio State has set the bar very high.
"It's definitely a great start and I'll probably try to get up to some more schools over the summer. It was definitely cool having all my guys from Florida with me. It kind of made me feel at home a little bit."
The trip rated as a '10' on McGee's scale but he hopes to see more schools over the summer. He also hopes to have a college decision made this summer as well.
"I don't have any more trips scheduled at the moment. I'll talk with my father about taking a road trip to different colleges but I'll be making a college decision before the season."
The college road trip got much tougher to schedule just this week as McGee made another decision that will impact his future.
"I'll be very busy taking classes this summer. I just decided probably last week that I'll be enrolling early. I talked to my counselors at school and they said I could do it."
