Wegher back on track
After resting a sore hamstring recently, Brandon Wegher is back on track as he gets ready for districts and the state meet in the coming weeks. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Wegher, who has run as fast as 10.69 in the 100 meter dash this year, looks forward to a strong finish to the track season this month.
Two weeks ago, Wegher placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.92 in inclement weather at the Drake Relays, which includes all classes in the state of Iowa. The junior looks to improve that time and others as he plans to run the 100, 200, 4x100, and 4x200 at districts this week.
On the football recruiting front, Wegher currently has close to twenty scholarship offers. The four-star prospect, who rushed for 2,334 yards and 34 touchdowns last season, has seen a steady stream of college coaches stop by his high school this past month during the spring evaluation period, including Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Penn State, and Wisconsin.
Along with the schools that have offered, Wegher is also receiving recent interest from California and Michigan, among others. Currently, the junior hopes to sit down and start narrowing his list over the summer and maybe make a decision before the fall.
Wegher holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Penn State, Auburn, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Arkansas, San Diego State, Arizona, Wyoming, Buffalo, UNI, and South Dakota State.
