Peachtree Ridge takes title
After falling short a year ago, Peachtree Ridge High School came into Auburn's first passing camp of the summer determined to return home to Suwanee, Ga., with the championship.
"We felt bad about losing in the final seconds last year," said linebacker Kevin Minter. "We decided to come here, work hard, and win this year."
Minter and his teammates did just that Saturday, rallying from a 12-0 deficit to beat Taylor (Ga.) County 15-12 in the championship game.
"It's a team builder and it was important for us to win," Peachtree Ridge head coach Bill Ballard said. "We want to compete in everything we do and try to win.
"It was a lot of fun. We come down here to work on our passing game and get that going. Our defensive corners get a lot of work."
Auburn's first passing camp consisted of 16 teams from Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The teams play 7-on-7, one-hand touch with the quarterback having four seconds to release the football.
The teams played six games Friday and then the tournament Saturday morning.
Ballard said Auburn does as a great job putting on the camp.
