TCU among offers for Mims
Round Rock (TX) Stony Point is home to several prospects for the 2009 class. One of those talented players is defensive end Tevin Mims. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder racked up district honors in '07 after recording 42 tackles and 4 sacks and is starting to reap the benefits of a good season.
So far on the table for Mims are offers from Iowa State, Ohio, La Tech, and TCU. Others such as Colorado, Kansas, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech continue to show the rising prospect strong interest.
Mims says a few teams have caught his attention early on.
"I like Texas Tech and TCU," he said. "I like Nebraska too, they're starting to show a lot of interest. I like Texas Tech because the program is really good, but I love the school more for academics than I do for football. The offense is crazy but the defense is where they need work and I would like to be part of that building process."
Mims appears to be putting academics above all other factors when he looks at a particular program.
"Location is a big part and academics definitely," he said. "What I want to major in will play a role and on the athletic side I'm looking at what type of facilities each school has."
With the Horned Frogs making a push to shore up the defensive line, more particularly at end, Mims looks like the type of player that fit's the teams defensive mold.
"The offer from TCU is a written one," he said. "TCU was the first school that offered me. I don't know too much about them other than they are ranked every year and L.T. played there. I also know they had two defensive lineman that just went pro. I still have to go out there and do some research then."
Mims is no hurry on making a decision and in the meantime may hit up some camps during the summer.
"I'll maybe make my decision during my senior season during the middle of football season," he said. "I Haven't attended any camps yet but hopefully I'll get a chance to."
