Martinez fond of OSU after first visit

Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood offensive lineman John Martinez has quite the resume in terms of his offer sheet. With teams like USC, LSU, UCLA, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Auburn on his scholarship offer list, it looks like Martinez has his work cut out for him.

Doing a little bit more research today in his hunt for the perfect school, the offensive lineman attended Ohio State's camp, coming away quite impressed with another powerhouse in the Buckeyes.

As a first impression of Ohio State, Martinez felt the trip and the camp went quite well, notching the Buckeyes up to one of his top schools of consideration.

"I thought the camp was pretty cool. There was a lot of competition," Martinez said. "I like the coaching staff a lot. I felt like I performed pretty decent, solid. The camp went really well even though we did a few drills that made me really tired…. I was faster than a couple of the guys doing the drills with me."

There is one facet in which Ohio State does not match the aforementioned schools, and that is not yet offering Martinez a scholarship. Nevertheless, Martinez has narrowed down his top choices to Ohio State, USC, LSU, and UCLA.

Though Martinez has yet to land an offer from Ohio State, he plans to wait until after his senior season to make his decision, thus giving the Buckeyes plenty of time to send an offer his way.

"I am going to wait to make my decision until after my senior season," Martinez said. "Everyone is always committing before their senior season, so I felt that if I were to take a longer time, I feel like I would be able to get more comfortable with the school.

Even so, an offer-less Ohio State will remain toward the top of Martinez's list.

"I cant really put the schools in order right now, but they are all at the top," Martinez said. "Ohio State is a really good football team, obviously, and they have been getting to the national championship a lot, so I thought since I haven't been offered from them that I would go check them out because everybody talks about them a lot.

"I am glad I came here because the offensive line coach was really great."

Despite coming away from Ohio State impressed, Martinez still had not forgotten about the other schools that made a solid impression on him.

"I am going to check out UCLA on Monday because my coach said their offensive line coach was really cool," Martinez said. "After that, I am going to USC. I have always liked USC because their coaching staff and me and Pete Carroll talk quite often and I really liked it when I visited them last year."

As for LSU?

"My dad told me I should go to an SEC team, and LSU is the only on down south that I would want to go to."

That being said, Ohio State is one of the last schools Martinez is still hoping to land an offer from soon.

"If I get an offer from Ohio State, then it makes everything different," Martinez said, "because I am leaning toward USC the most right now, but I really liked Ohio State a lot, so if OSU offered me, then I would be thinking about both of them pretty hard."

Martinez has been recruited mainly by Ohio State offensive line coach Jim Bollman and tight ends coach John Peterson, and has had a few conversations with them in the past.

"Peterson visited me a couple weeks ago or a month, so he didn't say much today," Martinez said. "He said he likes me work ethic and my explosion, and (Peterson) thinks that if I came to Ohio State those would all improve to a whole other level.

"Today at the camp he said he likes me better than before."
