Freshmen report; DB's ready to compete

Last week at Southeastern Conference Media Days, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville was asked if any of his incoming freshmen had a chance to play this season.

D'Antoine Hood loved the coach's response.

Tuberville singled out Hood and fellow freshman Harry Adams as possible early-impact players. Hood, who grew up an Auburn fan a few miles down the road in Phenix City, Ala., just wants to live up to that early praise.

"It's always nice for your coach to know your name," the 5-foot-10, 184-pounder joked during Friday's rookie report day.

Hood, the cousin of former AU star Rod Hood, has high hopes for his rookie season.

"I'm definitely going to try to make him proud, make my coaches proud, make the fans proud," he said. "I'm definitely going to try to do my best, give my all, 110 percent, every time.

"I'm just basically ready to hit the field tomorrow and get the jitters off me. I'm going into something I really don't know, but I'm really excited."

Hood has been preparing to make an impact on Auburn's defense since National Signing Day. Fellow freshman Adams, meanwhile, has only been focusing on defense since early July.
