Practice report: Second workout in the books
After a layoff of 13 hours, the Missouri Tigers returned to the practice field on Tuesday morning for the second workout of fall camp. PowerMizzou.com was there with full coverage.
*The weather, make no mistake, is still hideous in Columbia. Balmy doesn't describe it. Apparently, Gary Pinkel disagrees. "It wasn't that bad out here today at all," Pinkel said. "Today was nothing compared to yesterday. There was a little breeze. I felt like it was April." Sure, coach, April in Africa maybe.
*A couple of players that looked to be quite a bit bigger to me than they were a year ago were defensive backs Del Howard and Trey Hobson.
*There was talk in the spring of working Munir Prince mostly at safety this season to help out with depth. However, it appeared that Prince was working with the corners, which is projected as his long-term position at Mizzou.
*If nothing else, Blaine Gabbert has a rocket right arm. He overthrew a receiver and Andy Hill stuck his hand out to knock the ball down. Hill was shaking his left hand and muttering after the deflection. Might want to leave those passes alone in the future. Gabbert has been what you would expect. At times he's thrown some impressive passes, but he's had his share of inconsistency in the first couple of days.
*Among some players that I saw getting increased reps with the first team were Kevin Rutland on defense and Jimmy Jackson on offense.
The Tigers return to the practice field at 7:15 on Wednesday morning.
