Neuheisel likes the effort and energy

The Bruins had a very spirited practice and the pace on both sides of the ball is better than it has been in years. It is obvious that the influx of young talent has made practices much more competitive. It is still a work in progress, but no one can deny that there is a strong effort by the players.

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel talks about practice and answers questions.

Neuheisel: "I was really pleased with the energy and tempo of the practice. Scott Glicksberg missed some practice and hopefully he will be back tomorrow. He has been sick with flu like symptoms the last couple days and that's why he hasn't been out here and it's unfortunately showing sometimes with the inexperience in the front, but I like the tempo.

"We put a forty second clock on the field today to try and simulate what is going on in a college game with the new rule and I thought it was spirited, which it should be.

"Anytime to get close to that edge you tend to get close to going over it and we have to understand how to play at the edge without losing our composure, but I like what I'm seeing."

What are you seeing from your offensive line so far?

Neuheisel: "It's behind the defensive line, as was the case in spring and is always the case when you first start up, but I think we are further along than we were.

"I anticipate us improving at that spot maybe better than any other position on the field. I just think we are going to grow fast."
