Walker talks about his defense

The defense was solid as they have been ever since defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker took over the reins three years ago. There is a very good reason why, when Rick Neuheisel was named head coach, his first order of business was to keep Walker at UCLA.

Like the talented recruiting class that stayed aboard, Neuheisel was able to land his first recruit in Walker and if the Bruins are to be successful while the offense catches up it will be put squarely on the shoulders of the defense and because of the man leading the defensive charge this defense could be up to the task.

Walker took questions from the media after the scrimmage.

How are your defensive backs doing?

Walker: "We're good back there, especially once we get Bret Lockett back, I think we will be a solid group. I know this first game we are just going to have to hold on. We are going to try and protect them a little bit and try and get them through the first game."
