Graves has the Grades, and the Offers

TULSA - As Pearlie Graves headed into his senior year there were two things circling in his head, one was a source of pride, and the other one caused a great deal of self-doubt. Since his sophomore year Graves had been acclaimed as a potentially great defensive tackle, an idea that was only furthered upon his transfer to perennial 5A power Tulsa East Central.

However, would his talent ever be shown on the college football field? With Graves falling behind his coursework during his first two years of high school at Tulsa Central it seemed an uphill climb for Graves to qualify according to NCAA rules.

Well, there is no longer cause for doubt as earlier this month he received word that his test score and GPA currently would be enough to qualify to head to a division-one university next season.

Two local Big 12 schools took little time reacting as Oklahoma defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp reached Graves earlier this week to inform him that the Sooners were extending him a scholarship offer. Just a few days later the Oklahoma State Cowboys followed suit.

Graves was quick to say that both were great opportunities for him but admits that the conversation with Shipp was a particularly momentous occasion.
