SU still has a bright future

Orange fans hoped under Greg Robinson the Orange football program would improve on the previous years before him. Four years into the Robinson era and things have not gone in the right direction. Well there is a chance the future could still be bright because of Robinson,

In five games this season Syracuse has played a lot of young players and CuseConfidential.com breaks it down.

Freshmen: Antwon Bailey, Van Chew, Dorian Graham, Nick Lepak, Mikhail Marinovich, Grant Mayes, Marcus Sales, Frank Saterfield.

Redshirt Freshmen: Cody Catalina, Chaz Cervino, Lamar Middleton, Darnell Pratt, Nick Provo, Kevyn Scott.

Sophomores: Doug Hogue, Mike Holmes, Rob Long, Randy McKinnon, Mike Mele, Da'Mon Merkerson, Max Suter, Bud Tribbey.

Redshirt Sophomores: Ryan Bartholomew, Tucker Baumback, Parker Canty, Delone Carter, Donte Davis, Jared Kimmel, Andrew Lewis, Jonathan Meldrum, Anthony Perkins, Adam Rosner, Nico Scott, Derrell Smith.

With 35 total players that still have two years or more left in the program it makes that experience factor important for the next few years.

This week the Orange have a bye week and on the current depth chart the young players make their presence felt. On offense four players start that are sophomores, on defense five players who start are sophomores.

Another glance at the depth chart shows the back ups are just as young. On offense Syracuse has nine players, defense has 10 players that are sophomores or younger.

At the end of this season Syracuse will only lose 14 seniors and the younger players will take that added experience into 2009.

Syracuse may not be having the season they had hoped for, but most of the players having an impact on the team will be around for a few more years.
