Stewart to team: WAKE UP!
MORGANTOWN--Bill Stewart used a golf analogy to literally wake up his football team on a dreary Tuesday afternoon as he addressed media in a televised press conference.
"I am at a loss at what to say and having hard time trying to figure it out as we grow as a team and a staff to explain last year's victory over Connecticut and what it might mean to our team Saturday as we go up there to take on the Huskies," Stewart said.
Stewart's Mountaineers (5-2 overall, 2-0 Big East), and leading Connecticut (6-2, 2-1) and Pitt (5-2, 2-1) by a slim half-game in league standings, travel to East Hartford for a high-noon showdown with an opponent that tied them a year ago for the Big East crown. West Virginia earned the BCS bowl bid, then, by virtue of its 66-21 rout of the Huskies at Milan Puskar Stadium. It was probably the '07 team's best offensive showing and UConn coach Randy Edsall coyly denied he would use it to pump up his team on Monday's Big East teleconference call.
