A&M back in play for Burkhead

The recruiting of Plano running back Rex Burkhead has changed course almost as much as a meandering stream. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound four-star prospect took several unofficial visits during the spring and summer to schools such as Louisville, Kentucky, Alabama and Auburn.

However, Burkhead plays for a top 10 program at Plano and his senior year represented his last chance for a state championship for both him and his teammates. As a result, early on it appeared that Burkhead had de-emphasized recruiting to a significant extent. He took an official visit to Nebraska after a Thursday night game in the second week of the season, but it appeared that the trip to Lincoln would be his last visit of any kind for a while.

However, things have changed again in recent weeks. Burkhead took an unofficial visit to Texas for the Longhorns' game with Missouri in October after receiving renewed interest from the Texas coaching staff. Last weekend, Burkhead made a trip to Texas A&M for the Aggies' game with Colorado at the behest of A&M running backs coach Randy Jordan.

Burkhead has scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, California, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Stanford, Texas Tech and Virginia.
