Nwoke enjoys trip to Fort Collins

Thunder Ridge (Co.) High School tailback Chris Nwoke got a look at in-state school Colorado State this weekend, taking an official visit to the Fort Collins school. Nwoke has scholarship offers from Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming and is gaining interest from Stanford, Idaho and San Diego State.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Nwoke ran for nearly 1,800 yards this season and went over 200 yards "six or seven," times this season. Only once this year was Nwoke held to under 100 yards and he accounted for 32 touchdowns this season. Nwoke also did some tremendous work academically where he posted a 3.0 grade point average and a 28 on his ACT.

While his high school season was impressive, this weekend was about the next step in his football career.

"I had a fun trip," Nwoke said on Sunday. "We got in about 4 o'clock on Friday, and we met at Hilton. We got settled in, met some players, went to dinner and met our host. We met some juniors and seniors to get an idea of team chemistry. I also got to meet the running backs coach - I had not met him yet.

"On Saturday we watched practice and them getting ready for a bowl game," Nwoke added. "We saw their weight room, met the doctors and trainers. We talked to a business major and just got a thorough tour of the campus. "

This weekend's trip to Fort Collins was Nwoke's first college visit and he said he should be hearing about a visit from Wyoming this week. Nwoke said the trip has landed CSU at or near the top of his list of potential suitors.

"It was a real good experience," Nwoke said. "They (CSU) are probably one of my top choices right now. I don't want to make the decision right now. I need to talk it over with the family and then maybe let them know in a couple weeks."
