A&M closes shop on 2009, already looking to 2010

College football fans tend to look at recruiting classes in a vacuum and as a stand alone entity. They digest recruiting rankings on signing day along with how a school appeared to do at positions of "need" and leave it at that. But most college coaches will tell you that they recruit to a program over consecutive classes. Signing one player at a posiution may have been done because the school inked five prospects at the position the year before.

For Texas A&M, the door is closed on its 2009 class as of yesterday. The class was ranked 18th nationally per Rivals.com and featured a five star talent in running back Christine Michael. There were also 28 signees, three of whom will be initial counters in the 2010 class (presuming that everyone qualifies academically). However, those features simply reflect the surface of A&M's recruiting prowness because in order to take a look back, we also must take a look ahead to 2010.
