Wegher reflects on the recruiting process

As perhaps the most decorated recruited in Iowa's Class of 2009, running back Brandon Wegher drew a lot of headlines on signing day as he made things official with the Hawkeyes. We caught up with the 5-foot-11, 206-pound Wegher, who rushed for 3,238 yards and 51 touchdowns this past season, to talk about the big day, the whole recruiting process and why he chose Iowa, and his future as a Hawkeye.

Q: First, tell me about today. What all did you do for signing day so far?

WEGHER: This morning, I just woke up and signed and then my dad faxed the papers in. That's about it.

Q: What do you have planned for later today?

WEGHER: Our school has a thing with our parents, school administration, media, and everyone for signing day. There's like eight or nine of us that are going on to play football.

Q: Is that kind of the last thing together for you group of seniors after winning the state championship and everything this year?

WEGHER: Yeah, it's going to be great. It just shows how much football means to all of us.

Q: What does today mean for you signing that letter of intent?

WEGHER: It feels great just to be officially a part of Iowa.

Q: You committed before the season obviously, but what's it been like since then as you've kind of got to know more about Iowa?

WEGHER: I took my official and that was really great. I had a great time and really got to know everyone there.

Q: On the field, it was kind of a dream season for you this year.

WEGHER: Yeah, it was unbelievable. We won the state championship, which was one of the best feelings in the world.

Q: I know Coach Ferentz was up to visit you a couple weeks back. What was that like?

WEGHER: Oh, it was great. He came to school with Coach Morgan and then they headed up to my dad's office and came over to the house too.

Q: What have you kind of heard from them as far as coming in this year and where they project you?

WEGHER: They just said be ready to play. Both running back and on returns.
