Grimes expects a lot of competition

New offensive line coach Jeff Grimes will open up all five positions for competition. But while Auburn returns experienced players at four of the spots, right tackle appears to be the biggest question mark heading into the start of spring practice Mar. 24.

But Grimes certainly has an eye on a player to fill that spot in Andrew McCain. The senior has played in 27 career games but has yet to start.

The opportunity to win a starting position is definitely there for McCain, who gets a fresh start with Grimes taking over for former o-line coach Hugh Nall.

"Andrew McCain's a guy that's been around here awhile and hasn't had a lot of experience, but I think definitely has got some ability," Grimes said. "He would be a natural (at right tackle)."

But McCain nor any of AU's four returning offensive linemen with starting experience will be guaranteed playing time.
