Big weekend for Hagerup

Bret Bielema and the Wisconsin coaching staff are working with a limited number of scholarships for the 2010 recruiting class.

But after watching three SEC schools reach out to Will Hagerup this past week, the staff decided to follow suit.

Visiting Madison Saturday for Wisconsin's third practice of the spring, Hagerup, widely considered one of the top specialists in the Midwest, picked up on offer from UW.

Just this past week, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound punter picked up offers from Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida, the defending national champions. The Whitefish Bay, Wis., prospect also has offers from Purdue and Iowa State.

"I've been lucky to get interest early on," Hagerup said in a previous interview. "My decision will depend on what happens during the summer. I'd like to make my decision sometime in July or August before my senior year starts. We'll see."

Hagerup is the second known in-state athlete-and first specialist-Wisconsin has offered in the 2010 class. Linebacker Konrad Zagzebski, who verbally committed to Minnesota, received an offer during Wisconsin's junior day in March.

During that time, it was believed Wisconsin would have 16 scholarships to work with after talking to multiple athletes who were in attendance. Since that time, however, Elijah Hodge, Ricky Garner, Jasper Grimes and James Stallons left the program, opening up four more scholarships.

Though it is not yet known how they will be allocated, Wisconsin could now have around 20 scholarships to distribute to the current class of juniors.

Stay tuned to for more commentary from Hagerup later in the day
