Working on consistency

Inconsistent.

That best describes the Oregon State quarterbacks' performance during Monday's practice at Pothro Field. Maybe it was the beautiful, sunny weather, but Sean Canfield, Ryan Katz and Justin Engstrom all struggled to get into a rhythm.

Canfield was the most consistent of the three. During red zone drills, he released the ball quickly and was accurate. There's no question he has the best touches on his throws, especially on fade routes. He, however, was most impressive throwing the ball over middle.

And for those writing off junior receiver Darrell Catchings, think again. Canfield is developing a rapport with Catchings and it showed on Monday. He caught several touchdowns during the red zone drills, despite good coverage by Tim Clark.

Another good sign watching Canfield was his rolling out. He was moving well and made some nice throws on the run.

He didn't perform as well when the team spread out and used the whole field during last section of practice as the defense gained an edge from having more room to work with.
