Beavers after New Mexico big man

In basketball recruiting there are only so many bigs to go around and even fewer that are top caliber. The Oregon State coaches have been hot on the trail of 6-foot-10, 230 pound Los Alamos (NM) prospect Alex Kirk, who has seen his recruitment take off in recent months.

Being a star basketball player and a high school student does take its toll however. Kirk said that he really hasn't had time to sit down and narrow his list of suitors down since he has been working hard on school and basketball, but that doesn't mean that the Beavers haven't made an impact.

"Coach Stewart has been the one recruiting me for Oregon State," Kirk said. "I've talked to him and Coach Robinson, actually. What they are building there is great. I played last weekend against a guard that will be going there (Ahmad Starks), obviously he is a great player."

Kirk is not just a big man that battles the rim, he has a great overall game and can hit almost any shot, even beyond the arc. One of his biggest strengths however is his ability to make shots over the opposition and of course blocking shots.
