Florida TE will visit

Jacksonville (FL) Bishop Kenny tight end Neil Basford recently picked up an offer from South Carolina and has high interest in the SEC program.

"I have nine or ten offers now," he said. "Wake Forest just offered today, like a couple of hours ago."

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end told GamecockCentral.com how he found about his USC offer.

"I talked to Coach (Steve) Spurrier, Jr. on the phone," he said. "Then I got the offer letter in the mail."

Basford likes what he heard from the Gamecocks' receiver coach, who recruits Jacksonville for Carolina.

"He was really easy to talk to," he said. He's a good coach and knows what he is doing with recruiting. He has a good personality."

Admittedly, Basford is new to the recruiting process.

"I haven't visited any of these places, so I'm kind of going into it blind," he said.

He does know one thing about South Carolina.

"I know they use the tight end there," he said. "I also know Mike Triglia, who signed with them."

Basford plans a summer slate of trips.

"I'm going to Florida State Saturday to look around," he said. "I'm also going to Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Arkansas and maybe Minnesota."

The Florida tight end reeled in sixteen catches for four touchdowns during his junior campaign, and he currently has a top group of schools.

"Florida State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Wake Forest," he said.

What will the Sunshine State native be looking for at the next level?

"Just the overall fit and feeling comfortable," he said. "The coaches, the facilities, and the academics."

Basford is unsure as to when he will make his decision.

"I'd definitely like to play in the SEC or ACC," he said. "Everything's going kind of quick, so when everything slows down I will sit down and think about it."
