When will Bogotay get to Athens?

Brandon Bogotay has yet to finish his final exams, but the kicker assured UGASports that he is "good to go" in regards to qualifying and will get to Athens just as soon as he can.

Bogotay cannot officially enroll at Georgia until he completes his final exams at Grossmont College. He has two more tests remaining.

"I'm excited to get out there," Bogotay said.

With Bogotay apparently on board, that leaves just defensive tackle Kwame Geathers as Georgia's lone 2009 signee who has yet to hear about his academic status.

However, there is a reason. Final exams at Carver's Bay (S.C.) High don't conclude until Friday, meaning it will probably be next week before Geathers' status is known.

A native San Diego, Calif., Bogotay (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) spent last year as a freshman at Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif. where he was named to the Pacific Conference's All-Conference First Team. He finished 15-of-23 on field goals, including a long one of 52 yards. He ranked No. 2 on the California College Athletic Association's list for most points scored last year with 72.

Bogatay said that he has a range of up to 65 yards. Not bad for somebody for somebody who just started kicking halfway through his senior year in high school.

"I've played soccer since I was 10," Bogotay said. "I wasn't too sure when I first tried out, but when I found out I had the leg for it, I started thinking this might be a good idea."

Ironically, it was Bogotay who learned after reading a story on the Internet that Georgia might be looking for a kicker, he had his coach (Jordan) put together a tape and mail it to Bulldog head coach Mark Richt.

"You could see right way that he had the leg," Richt said earlier this year. "That jumped out at you right away."

Richt said that Bogotay would be allowed to compete with Blair Walsh and Jamie Lindley for both the field goal and kickoff duties this fall.

"I'm going to get the opportunity to come in and do everything, kickoffs and field goals and I appreciate the chance," Bogotay said. "I'm just going to out there and compete. Blair's a great kicker and I look forward to working with him."
