Sims excited about joining Tide
When Gainesville (GA) star Blake Sims committed to Alabama in April, the Crimson Tide gained one of the most highly sought after athletes in the Southeast. Now the versatile three-star prospect is preparing to join the Crimson Tide in 2010 and paid a visit to Tuscaloosa recently to help him get further acquainted with his future school.
"I didn't participate in the camp but I came down and chilled with my new family," said Sims. "I did go out to watch the other guys competing at the camp and watching those coaches out there working with the other players reminded me why I committed to Alabama. They are so intense and so focused on helping everybody out there become better at what they do. They're just the right coaches for me."
The 6-foot, 180-pound Sims said he has not yet decided what position he'll play in college though he did discuss the topic with head coach Nick Saban during his visit.
"I talked to Coach Saban and he basically filled me in on what I needed to do to get ready to be a part of this program. We also talked a little about my different possibilities as far as positions."
"I'm really not sure where I'm going to start out. Coach Saban said he thinks I can contribute to almost any skill position. My preference would probably be wide receiver, kick returner or tailback but I will play wherever Coach Saban thinks I can help the team the most."
Sims was also accompanied at the camp by his junior teammate A.J. Johnson, considered one of the top inside linebacker prospects for the class of 2011. Sims said Johnson left Tuscaloosa impressed with what the Tide had to offer.
"We talked about the camp and how he felt about Alabama. He loves the defense that Alabama runs and he said Alabama is one of his top three right now."
The nation's No. 54 ranked athlete prospect has already developed strong relationships with several of the Tide's 2010 commits, including two other players from the state of Georgia.
"I talk to Ronald Carswell a lot as well as Austin Shepherd. We are all just excited to be joining this team and hopefully doing something special together while we are at Alabama."
"I'm through with recruiting. Now I'm just focused on being a leader on my team and pushing my teammates and my fellow seniors to be the best we can be and putting us in a position to win the state title."
As a junior, Sims rushed for 665 yards and 15 touchdowns and passed for 1,575 yards and 15 touchdowns.
