Hampton ready to go

One month removed from injurying his knee during off-season workouts, Jewel Hampton was on the practice field on Friday as the Hawkeyes opened August camp. When the injury was first happened, it was unclear whether Hampton would be full speed by this point or even playing at all, but he says he is ready to go. He talks about the injury and much more.

Q: Can you take me back the injury and what happened?

HAMPTON: I hurt my knee I guess, you know, but I'm moving forward. I'm trying to put it in the past and just rehabbing it up, trying to get ready for the first game.

Q: Did it end up being a sprained knee or what are they calling it?

HAMPTON: I really can't elaborate on my knee status.

Q: How are you feeling now?

HAMPTON: I'm feeling real good. I had practice today and I ran real well on it and it didn't hurt, so I think it's going to be good.

Q: Other than that happening, how was your off-season?

HAMPTON: Everything went well. The training and the weightlifting went real well. I'm just look looking forward to this first game.

Q: Can you talk about the mental strain the injury put you through?

HAMPTON: You know, when they first told me I was heartbroken, but then they called me back and told me that it might not be as bad as it was. So I mean that really gave me a motivational force to get back and do better.

Q: So did you start eating nails for breakfast or was there a change in your routine?

HAMPTON: There's not really a change, it's just working harder. That's pretty much it.

Q: And how's it feeling now?

HAMPTON: Everything's going real well right now. I'm just rehabbing and trying to get back to 100% for the first game. I had practice today and it went real well.
