Datone Jones coming into his own

Bruin sophomore defensive end, Datone Jones came to UCLA as a 230 pound defensive end who had only played organized football for two years. He has worked incredibly hard on and off the field. He had four A's in the last quarter and he is now weighing 267 and running a 4.6. Clearly this is a young man who knows what it takes to go places. He has even shown leadership qualities this training camp. BruinBlitz.com caught up with the talented sophomore to get his views on camp and the coming season.

BruinBlitz.com: Datone, how do you think you are doing this training camp as you get ready for your first year as a full time starter?

Jones: "So far, so good. Every day I come out and try to pick it up a little more. I want to know my assignments and teach the young guys learn their assignments and help them. I was to start and become a leader.

BruinBlitz.com: How good is your defense going to be this year?

Jones: "I believe we can be one of the greatest defenses in the Pac 10 and the country. All we have to do is come out here every day and keep busting it and maybe we will be."

BruinBlitz.com: What is the strength of your defense?

Jones: "Everyone is fast and this year everyone is really aggressive and tough. We have room to have one person make a mistake because we have 10 other guys right there ready to make up for it."
