Series by series: UW's offense against Wofford

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin offense shook off two early fumbles in the first quarter and still managed to put up 44 points and 430 yards of total offense. Still, the fumble bug plagued the Badgers throughout and it is something that needs to be cleaned up.

Now, takes a look back at every UW offensive series from Saturday's game. The following is a series-by-series recap:

First Quarter:

Drive No. 1: Started on own 40 yard line following opening kickoff.
Plays: 3
Yards: 31
Result: John Clay lost fumble.

Key play: With the offense moving, Clay took the handoff, ran off left tackle and looked to have a big play at his fingertips. With only one defender near him, Clay slowed his momentum and looked as though he wanted to hurdle him. Instead, he lowered his shoulder and tried running over the safety. Instead, he fumbled and Wofford recovered.

Drive No. 2: Started on Wofford's 29 yard line following Mitch Allen fumble.
Plays: 2
Yards: 11
Result: Zach Brown fumble.

Key play: Brown, like Clay, looked to have a seam open for a big play. However, once he met the linebacker, he hit him and Brown coughed up the ball. It was UW's second lost fumble in the last three plays.

Drive No. 3: Started on own 41 yard line following Chris Tommie punt.
Plays: 5
Yards: 8
Result: 36-yard Brad Nortman punt.

Key play: Usually the end around to David Gilreath nets a positive gain. However, on first and 10, Wofford did not fall for it and brought him down for a nine-yard loss.

Drive No. 4: Started on Wofford 26 yard line following Antonio Fenelus fumble recovery.
Plays: 8
Yards: 7
Result: 36-yard Phillip Welch field goal. (3-0 Wisconsin)

Key play: Brown seemingly redeemed himself when he made a nice 15-yard scamper to the end zone. However, the play was called back due to an Isaac Anderson holding penalty.

Then, facing third and nine, Scott Tolzien found Nick Toon for 10 yards and what would have been a first down. Instead, UW was whistled for an illegal formation and wound up having to settle for the field goal.

Drive No. 5: Started on own 19 yard line following 40-yard Allen punt.
Plays: 6
Yards: 81
Result: Three-yard Kendricks touchdown reception. (10-0 Wisconsin)

Key play: Tolzien set the tone for the drive when he connected with Lance Kendricks for a 28-yard gain down the sideline on the first play. Five plays later, Tolzien and Kendricks would meet again, this time for a three-yard touchdown.

Second Quarter:

Drive No. 6: Started on the Wofford 19 yard line following turnover on downs.
Plays: 3
Yards: 19
Result: Four-yard Erik Smith touchdown run. (24-0 Wisconsin)

Key play: Smith took the handoff and waltzed into the end zone for an easy four-yard score. It was his first collegiate touchdown.

Drive No. 7: Started on own 40 yard line following 42-yard Tommie punt.
Plays: 10
Yards: 60
Result: Seven-yard Garrett Graham touchdown catch. (31-0 Wisconsin)

Key play: Facing second and long, Tolzien found Maurice Moore in the flat. Moore made the catch, fought off a tackle and picked up the first down.

Drive No. 8: Started on Wofford 47 yard line following David Gilbert fumble recovery.
Plays: 3
Yards: -7
Result: 54-yard Nortman punt.

Key play: On the first play from scrimmage, Tolzien could not handle the shotgun snap and fell on the fumble for a loss of seven yards.

Third Quarter:

Drive No. 9: Started on own 29 yard line following missed field goal.
Plays: 3
Yards: 14
Result: Gilreath lost fumble.

Key play: Gilreath dropped Tolzien's backwards pass on first down and Wofford fell on it.

Drive No. 10: Started on own 38 yard line following kickoff (31-7 Wisconsin)
Plays: 8
Yards: 62
Result: Two-yard Brown touchdown run. (38-7 Wisconsin)

Key play: In Curt Phillips' first action of the game, he led a scoring drive. During it, Phillips rushed for 30 yards on only two carries and eventually watched Brown go in for the score.

Fourth Quarter:

Drive No. 11: Started on own 20 yard line following Devin Smith interception.
Plays: 9
Yards: 80
Result: Two-yard Brown touchdown run. (44-7 Wisconsin)
