Smith keeps QBs wary

After a string of impressive camp performances at the beginning of the summer, Edmond (OK) North cornerback Xavier Smith went from a virtual unknown to one of the most sought-after prospects in the Sooner State. Offers from TCU, Tulsa, Washington State and Colorado State poured in, but after a mid-summer visit to Missouri, Smith chose the Tigers.

Now, Smith is leading Edmond North toward an undefeated season. The Huskies have had their share of close calls to open the season, including a 14-13 win over Santa Fe and a 24-14 victory over Yukon. But one common element in those victories -- in which the Huskies' offense struggled -- has been the exceptional play of North's defense, spearheaded by Smith.
