The Northwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference just got a lot more exciting. Strengths: Brewer is still a player that has a long way to go before he is completely developed - which is a scary thought. He is a solid perimeter shooter when he can catch and shoot, something he continued to improve on during his junior season. He is most effective when he is able to explode past a defender with his quick first step. When elevating near the basket, Brewer exhibits great body control in being able to get himself a clear look at the basket. On the move he has tremendous court vision. He has shown a knack for making stellar passes. Without the ball, he is able to find open spots on the floor. Brewer's defense, however, is generating the most buzz amongst NBA GM's. There may be no better perimeter defender in the draft, and Brewer's length and athleticism make him a player capable of locking down both shooting guards and small forwards at the pro level.
Weaknesses: The most glaring problem with Brewer is his weight. At just 185 pounds, he will be one of the skinniest players in the NBA. He will have to bulk up in order to stay with stronger players. While his offensive game has improved over the last year, Brewer still struggles to create scoring opportunities for himself from time to time. He does not shoot very well on the move, and lacks a solid pull up jump shot. His ball handling, which also has improved, is still suspect - particularly when he goes to the basket.
Outlook: Brewer will hear his name called in the top 10 but could go as high as the top five. He is a great fit as a small forward in the NBA and will be an immediate impact defensively for whatever team drafts him. His offensive game needs a little more polish and he needs to add some weight to his frame.
