Series by series: UW's defense against Austin Peay

MADISON - Defensively against Austin Peay, the only blemish Wisconsin had on the scoreboard came from a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter. While it wasn't a dominating performance per se, it was a serviceable one for a Badger defense still trying to find its rhythm entering Big Ten play.

Now, with the dust settled, BadgerBlitz.com takes a look back at the game that was. The following is a defense series by series recap of Saturday's action.

FIRST QUARTER:

Defensive series No. 1: Started on Austin Peay 29 yard line following kickoff (7-0 UW)

Result: 40-yard Ryan Key punt.

Key play: Mike Taylor, playing in only his second complete game since suffering a torn ACL, recorded a tackle-for-loss on the first defensive series of the game. By the end, the sophomore linebacker led the team with seven tackles.

Result: 51-yard field goal from Steph Stansell (14-3)

Key play: Austin Peay never got deeper in territory than it did before settling for the 51 yard field goal at UW's 34 yard line.

SECOND QUARTER:

Key play: Kevin Rouse dropped Terrance Holt for a gain of seven yards on third and 13, forcing the punt.

Key play: Aaron Henry sized up APSU tight end Chris Litteral and lowered the boom on a route across the middle of the field, forcing the incomplete pass.

Key play: On third and 10, senior Blake Sorensen dropped Holt for a nine yard gain, forcing the punt.

Key play: Louis Nzegwu, who looked rather explosive throughout the game, tackled Wesley Kitts for no gain on second and eight.

Key play: Pat Muldoon and Taylor combined for a tackle to end the half.

THIRD QUARTER:

Key play: Facing a fourth and eight, Austin Peay thought it was fitting to attempt picking up the first down. Unfortunately for the Governors, Jake Ryan's pass was awry and UW took over.
