Five-star Anderson picks UVa

The Virginia Cavaliers struck gold today when 6-foot-5, 210-pound small forward Justin Anderson finally announced publicly what had been rumored for about a week: that he would become a part of the program Tony Bennett is building at UVa.

After backing out of his verbal to Maryland once long-time Terrapins coach Gary Williams retired, Anderson, he No. 23 overall prospect in the class of 2012, took a quick visit to Charlottesville last week.

The five-star recruit had committed to the Terps in March after cutting his list of schools down to Maryland, UVa, and North Carolina.

"The Cavaliers were always my second choice behind Maryland," Anderson said in a press release issued by Montrose Christian. "Also, my family lives in Virginia. After the departure of Coach [Gary] Williams and Coach [Robert] Ehsan, it just feels like the right fit."

Anderson joins top-100 recruits Mike Tobey and Evan Nolte to make up an incredible 2012 class.

The departure from his earlier commitment to the Terrapins began after Williams' retirement earlier this month but wasn't rumored until after Maryland hired Texas A&M's Mark Turgeon.

Once Turgeon decided not to retain Rob Ehsan, Anderson's lead recruiter from Maryland, the Montrose Christian standout and former Courtland High School star began searching for a new home in earnest.
