Media Days upon us

It's official - the college football season is almost here.

Can't you smell it?

Wednesday in Hoover, Ala. at the expansive Wynfrey Hotel, approximately 1,000 media types will swarm like flies at a picnic, anxious to gobble every little tidbit of information that emanates from the mouths of the league's 12 head coaches and the 36 players who will be on hand to conduct the myriad of interviews, both print and television alike.

For Georgia, the fun starts Thursday morning when head coach Mark Richt, center Ben Jones, quarterback Aaron Murray and cornerback Brandon Boykin take their turns.

Richt's first order of business will be to sit down with beat writers early in the morning, before making his way to the main conference room where he'll be greeted by 500 or so scribes, at least one of whom is certain to ask the proverbial "hot seat" question, which is sure to follow Richt throughout his approximate four-hour stay.

You want drama? There will be plenty of that with all the recent scandals that have rocked the college football world.

Think Auburn coach Gene Chizik might have something to say about that?

Who do the media think will win the league? Votes are due Thursday.

Will South Carolina be the pick to repeat as East champs? Will Alabama roll? The league's "experts" will have their say when the preseason All-SEC team and league predictions will be announced Friday morning.

Wednesday, Will Muschamp addresses the league media for the first time, with Arkansas' Bobby Petrino, South Carolina's Steve Spurrier and Mississippi State's Dan Mullen to follow.

On Thursday, Kentucky's Joker Phillips, Tennessee's Derek Dooley and Chizik will join Richt before the three-day event wraps up Friday with Alabama's [db]Nick Saban, new Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, Ole Miss' Houston Nutt and LSU's Les Miles.

Be sure to stay with UGASports throughout the three days with minute-by-minute updates on the Dawgvent and Twitter.
