Johnson '100 percent' with Tech
Marcus Johnson received an offer from Texas A&M over the weekend. The Red Raiders and Aggies were Johnson's two favorites before he committed to Tommy Tuberville's program in June, but the Houston-area standout said the A&M offer won't impact his status.League City (Texas) Clear Springs wide receiver and Texas Tech commit
"I have been telling everybody from the beginning that I am sticking with Tech and I am not going back on that," Johnson said. "I was 100 percent Texas Tech before (A&M) offered me and after they offered me as well."
Still, Johnson noted that it was an "honor" to receive an offer from the Aggies.
"It really is an honor to receive honors from two of the top schools in Texas, if not the nation," he said. "It is an honor to receive an offer from the Aggies but I know where I want to go."
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect credits his rising stock to the hard work he put in during the summer.
"Coming into this year, A&M and Tech both didn't really look at me as hard as I wanted them to," he said. "Those were two schools I wanted to notice me for personal reasons, it shows that you are capable of doing things at the next level if those two schools are showing interest in a wide receiver.
"I worked hard this summer and kept preparing myself and ended up receiving an offer from my dream school. It just shows that the hard work pays off and that good things happen to those who put themselves out there."
Despite the new offer and continued attention from other college programs, Johnson is completely focused on the remainder of his senior season and his future on the South Plains.
"I want to continue focusing on this year and not trying to pay too much attention to all the stuff that I am very fortunate to be doing after I graduate from college," Johnson said. "I want to give my school my all right now and help improve our record and finish the year out with a bang. Recruiting is going well, but I am with Tech so all I care about is my senior season right now."
Johnson committed to Tech in June, and holds offers from Air Force, Arizona, Kansas, Navy, Northwestern, Rice, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wyoming.
