Washington arrested for DUI

This wasn't the kind of news that Georgia coach Mark Richt wanted to wake up to on a Sunday morning - that junior outside linebacker Cornelius Washington was arrested for DUI and speeding Saturday evening outside of Commerce.

A police spokesman told UGASports that Washington posted a $3,500 bond and was released from jail overnight.

Richt is aware of the situation, according to UGA spokesman Claude Felton. Richt is scheduled to address the media during his weekly Sunday teleconference at 5:30 today.

The typical punishment for such a misdemeanor offense is 1/10 of the season's schedule, meaning Washington would miss Saturday's game at Tennessee. However, the last Bulldog player to be arrested for DUI - former player Demetre Baker - was dismissed from the team after a similar offense in 2010.

Washington had four tackles, including two sacks, in yesterday's 24-10 win over Mississippi State.
