Instant Analysis: UF-SU

No. 10 Florida (5-2) lost its second game of the year on the road to a top-five opponent 72-68 against No.4 Syracuse (8-0) on Friday night. Here's some instant reaction from the game:

IT WAS OVER WHEN: Scoop Jardine nailed a 3-pointer with just under four minutes left to put the SU up 61-53. With Florida struggling to generate offense against the two-three zone, the eight-point lead proved insurmountable.

THIS STAT DOESN'T LIE: 20 turnovers by the Gators. The Orange struggled to shoot it for much of the game, but they consistently generated offense off of turnovers. UF dished out 15 assists on the game, posting a similar ratio as in the OSU game.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: Jardine, Syracuse's senior point guard, came alive late and led the end-of-the-game surge for the Orange. He finished with 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals.

OH, WHAT A PLAY: UF lost track of SU's Kris Joseph on an inbounds play from under the Orange's basket early in the second half, leading to an alley-oop on the play with Joseph throwing down with two hands.

THIS MATCHUP PROVED KEY: Florida's primary ball handlers against Syracuse's zone defense. Erving Walker, Kenny Boynton and Brad Beal turned it over a combined 13 times. Walker and Boynton provided almost all of UF's offense, combining for 39 points, but they didn't do a good enough job making good decisions with the ball.
