Tight end to transfer from Florida

HOOVER, Ala. - A.C. Leonard and Florida are no more.

After a short and turmoil-filled relationship, it was announced Wednesday the sophomore tight end will be transferring from UF. The news comes five months after Leonard was suspended after being charged with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly shoved his girlfriend, dragged her by her hair and threw her out of his Gainesville apartment.

The former four-star prospect out of Jacksonville (Fla.) University Christian School was at the time out on a temporary suspension, with UF head coach Will Muschamp saying he had certain conditions to meet before he would be allowed back. He took part in a portion of spring practice but was not permitted to play in the Orange and Blue Debut and was set to face a suspension to start the 2012 season.

Wednesday's news creates a new hole at tight ends, where Leonard was expected to be the Gators' best pass-catching tight end this fall. It likely opens up an opportunity for four-star freshman tight end Kent Taylor to receive added playing time at the position this season.
