K-State to host open practice

Fans will get a chance to see the Kansas State men's basketball team before their 10-day trip to Brazil, as the squad will hold an open practice on Saturday, August 4 at Bramlage Coliseum.

The event, which is presented by Manhattan Broadcasting, will open to the public at 2 p.m. and conclude with a 20-minute scrimmage. Manhattan Broadcasting will have a live remote from Bramlage Coliseum beginning at 1 p.m. Fans are asked to enter the arena through the northwest and southwest doors.

Following the practice, head coach Bruce Weber and select players will address the crowd. The team will also be available for autographs on the concourse for 40 minutes following the scrimmage. Manhattan Broadcasting will provide a printed piece for autographs, or fans can bring their own personal items to be signed. Autographs will be limited to one per person.

The Athletics Ticket Office will open at 2 p.m., for fans interested in purchasing season tickets. A variety of ticket packages are available with prices remaining the same for the 2012-13 season. Current season-ticket holders have until Wednesday, August 15 to arrange payment and retain their seats. All fans interested in season tickets are encouraged to order or new by the August 15 priority deadline. Season tickets can be purchased in a variety of ways, including toll free at (800) 221.CATS (2287), online at www.kstatesports.com and in-person at the ticket office.

Seat locations will be very limited following the deadline, as Bramlage Coliseum has been sold out each of the past two seasons. K-State ranks as one of just 14 schools nationally to draw more than 12,000 in paid attendance for every regular season home game over the last two seasons. The list also includes Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kansas, Illinois, Michigan State, New Mexico, Vanderbilt and Creighton.

Department officials anticipate 19 home games (including two exhibition games) in 2012-13.

The practice will be one of 10 workouts that the Wildcats will have before they depart for Brazil on August 8. The 10-day trip from August 8-17 will include four games against Brazilian club teams in the cities of Sao Paulo (August 9-11) and Rio de Janeiro (August 12-16). The team will play its first game on Friday, August 10, against the Mogi das Cruzes Club team before a tilt with the Sao Jose dos Campos Club team on Saturday, August 11. The final two games will be against the Pingdamonhangaba Club team on Sunday, August 12, and the Tijuca Sports Club on Tuesday, August 14.

The NCAA allows teams to make a foreign trip once every four years, but this will be the first by the men's basketball team since playing four games in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, in October 2004.

Weber's team returns 12 lettermen, including seven players with starting experience, in 2012-13. The group is headlined by two-time All-Big 12 performer Rodney McGruder (15.8 ppg., 5.2 rpg.) and fellow Big 12 All-Defensive Team member Jordan Henriquez (7.6 ppg., 2.4 bpg.) as well as senior guard Martavious Irving (5.5 ppg., 1.5 apg.). McGruder was recently one of 18 college players invited to take part in the Kevin Durant Skills Academy in Chicago.

K-State made its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last five seasons in 2011-12, as the Wildcats posted a 22-11 overall record and earned a tie for fifth place in the Big 12 standings with a 10-8 mark. It was the school's unprecedented sixth consecutive 20-win season and sixth straight trip to the postseason.
