Five Scrimmage Questions

Missouri will hold its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning. PowerMizzou.com will have a full report, but here are five questions we have going in.

How will Evan Boehm perform in his first big audition?

There was a chance Boehm was going to see the field regardless of what happened in camp. But an injury to Travis Ruth has removed virtually any doubt. Coaches and teammates have said Boehm is physically "ready to play now." All eyes will be on the young left guard from Lee's Summit.

Which other freshmen will make an impression?

Dorial Green-Beckham is almost certain to play, but everyone will be watching to see how his first scrimmage goes. What about the other receivers in Levi Copelin, Brandon Holifield and Sean Culkin? There has been some thought that all four could see the field. Saturday could go a long way toward making those decisions. John Gibson and Morgan Steward are among the other freshmen who could take a major step toward avoiding a redshirt.

Just how good is Matt Hoch?

Coaches have raved about Hoch since spring ball when he first moved to defensive tackle. Now tipping the scales near 300 pounds, he has earned the top spot on the depth chart. How good is he and can he and Sheldon Richardson form a tough duo inside? A better question may be whether Hoch will even scrimmage. He has spent the last two days out of practice with a strained hamstring.

What do the Tigers have behind James Franklin?

Corbin Berkstresser had an up-and-down spring while Maty Mauk has improved after a bumpy first couple of days of fall camp. There is no doubt Franklin is the starter, but how good is the quarterback play if he goes down?

Will someone take control at safety?

Kenronte Walker has one spot locked down. Braylon Webb, Matt White and Ian Simon have all taken first-team snaps in the defensive backfield. Will one of those players separate himself from the trio or is this a position battle that will be waged deeper into camp?
